
It’s our planet
At Comfort Inn & Suites Blazing Stump, we are committed to greening our planet. Since developing an action plan in 2008 we have achieved year on year results with our latest green audit (9 June 2011) showing our progress to be:
Reduction in average water usage of 17%, saving 2,977kL year on year on the baseline of 2007
Reduction in average electricity usage of 17%, saving 75,250kWh year on year on the baseline of 2007
Reduction in average gas usage of 18%, saving 323GJ year on year on the baseline of 2007
Some initiatives used to achieve these results are:
- Installing aerators on all faucets
- Encouraging guests to join us in our water savings
- Educating staff to use water wisely
- Offering an 'eco' friendly cycle on all dishwashers
- Using phospate free dishwasher powder
- Biodegradable dishwashing detergent
- Optional linen change for guests staying more than one night
- Ladscaping to maximise water saving efforts
- Manual flush control in public restrooms
- Well maintained twin flush cisterns and taps
- Drip system and manual watering on garden areas
- Water saving shower heads 9L per minute or less
- Instigating a lights off policy for non activity related lighting
- Adjusting computers to enter sleep mode after five minutes of inactivity
- Replacing all cathode ray tube TV's with more energy efficient LCD TV's
- Retrofitting double glazed windows through some guest rooms
- Ensuring use of energy efficient bulbs across the property
- Using sunset timers on outdoor signage
- Solar heating of one pool
- Turning off inactive guest suite items at the wall (e.g. microwaves)
- Use of energy efficient mini bar fridges and ensuring all fridges seals are in good order
- Minimised use of heating and cooling through use of opening windows
- Demand controlled heating and cooling with suggested temperatures ranges
- Demand controlled lighting in conference room including dimmers and sectional lighting
- Organising a co-mingled recycling service
- Setting up a worm farm and diverting all organic waste from landfill
- Developing new signage encouraging staff to seperate and use correct bin for general waste and recycling
- Introduction of new in-room guest recycling program
- Double sided copying
- Recycling and refilling of ink cartridges
- Bulk cereals in place of portion controlled packs
- Choice of condiments on room service menu
- Reusable tabel linen and menus in dining room
- Use of 100% recycled paper throughout property
- 100% non smoking motel
- Reduction in Chemical use resulting in fresh smelling odour free suites
- Regularly service car for better efficiency
We are a proud member of VECCI's Grow Me the Money, Carbon Down and Paint the Town Green programs and are Green STAR rated by AAA Tourism.
